Orlando, Florida
Orlando was once a sleepy southern town ringed with sparkling lakes, pine forests and citrus groves. That was until Walt Disney turned 43 square miles of swampland into a Magic Kingdom, sparking an unprecedented building boom as hotels, restaurants, and scores of additional attractions arose to take advantage of the tourist traffic he had generated. Today, as central Florida’s largest city, Orlando covers an area of 66 square miles and is ranked fifth in the U.S. as a destination for overseas travelers.

Thanks to Orlando’s status as the country’s premier leisure destination and a leading meeting and convention location, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Disney aside, Orlando has become a major city in its own right with a rapidly expanding economy and entertainment centers. It feels very much like a young city, both in terms of its energy levels and the newness of many of its neighborhoods. Yet the older cities of the Orlando area can be quite charming, particularly Winter Park, with its brick streets, oak trees and Spanish moss.

With its central location, Orlando is within easy striking distance of the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, Daytona Beach, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine, making it a perfect destination where easy side trips offer a wide range of activities and opportunities.
